FAQ:
Does Acupuncture hurt?
Bottom line, after needles are in place, most people fall asleep or nod in and out for the rest of the treatment, so overall it is very much a feel-good experience. If a point is uncomfortable, it is more like a pinch or a mosquito bite, then it quickly passes. In the event it is felt after that first instant it is mild and doesn''t disrupt the deep rest and often sleep that follows.
The main needles used here at LCA are approximately the thickness of two average strands of human hair! They are high quality Korean and Japanese manufactured needles, which are sterile, single use and disposable.
I have never seen a patient of mine have anything even CLOSE to a serious side effect. That is over thousands of treatments over many years. Thats how safe and reliable it is when done by a Licensed Professional.
How fast can I expect results?
There are many individual variables, but you should start to see results within the first few treatments. If your health issues are ingrained in the body for many years, it will take longer to get relief and there is less chance of a total cure than if it is a new injury or illness. The closer the treatments are spaced at the beginning, the better chance of faster, more stable recovery. Twice per week at the very start works great for most people with most conditions. After satisfactory changes are made in the health, a patient can go down to once per week, once every other week, etc as needed.
I personally treat myself 1 time per week for wellness, maintenence and prevention. My results? Chronic severe migraines are in remission, chronic neck pain under control, haven't had a cold or flu since 2008 (when I started regulary treating myself) , I feel more energy, have good digestion, blood pressure and blood sugar are now normalized, mind and emotions more calm and clear. The list goes on and on. It has absolutely changed my life! Many patients have very similar, wide ranging results if they follow the simple and easy treatment advice.
How does Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine work?
One thing to keep in mind is that Traditional Chinese Medicine works almost opposite to how standard MD care works in a very important way: MD care works by directly relieving symptoms, then sitting back and (hopefully) letting your body's natural healing take over. On the other hand, Traditional Chinese Medicine works by DIRECTLY stimulating your natural healing abilities which, in turn, cause the symptoms to fade away in due time. Standard MD care is wonderful for acute, trauma, emergency care, in general and Traditional Chinese Medicine is fantastic for chronic, long term diseases, disorders, and syndomes. There is plenty of overlap between the two and often work great hand in hand.
Chances are, you will feel a strong sense of general wellness starting from the very first treatment, and will notice over the course of several treatments that many areas of your health are improving. This is the average patient's experience. It's not a magic bullet, this happens because in this medicine, the whole body has to come along for the ride, that is it's fundamental nature on how it works. It is TRULY holistic - we surround your health issues with good health on all sides until the health issues give way.
